Background:
Originally founded in 1828, the present junior and infant buildings were opened on 'extensive' grounds in the centre of Helston in 1958 and 1963. The 'popular and successful' school mainly draws in pupils from the local area but a 'significant' number come from an estate of naval houses serving the nearby Culdrose Naval Base. The 'broad and balanced' curriculum caters for an above average number of pupils with special educational needs. The 'wide variety' of extra-curricular activities includes football, running, short tennis, recorders, brass, violin, choir and knitting. The school'seeks to maintain its 'healthy partnership' with parents and the 'extremely active' Parent-Teacher Association organises fundraising and social events. All children are allocated to one of four houses, to give them a sense of belonging and teamwork. They aim to provide 'in a Christian environment a framework in which children are able to grow as individuals whilst learning to live in and contribute to society in a positive way'.
