Background:

Grade-Ruan Church of England Primary School was originally built by the church. The School Council has renamed the classrooms to Kennack, Cadgwith, Poltesco and Kynance. The Upper Juniors are taught in the original building which also houses the junior library and computer suite. There is a modern extension, which includes staff facilities and the office. After much fund-raising, in January 2005 the new school hall was completed. Since then it has been used every day for lunches and in constant use for Physical Education, assemblies, music concerts and PTA social events. The school also has a prize-winning school garden (best Kerrier School Gardens' Award 2005. Outside there is a hard play area with markings for various games including netball and football. It is enhanced by plant pots and trees with a wooden activity playhouse for the younger children. The school has use of the village recreation field across the lane and a prize-winning school garden. It is fortunate to be allowed to use a local meadow, by kind permission of Mr John Tham, for environmental and outdoor education.
