Background:
Established as a comprehensive in 1968, Fowey became a community college in 1990. It occupies a hill-top site at the entry to the ancient town of Fowey, overlooking the Fowey estuary and the sea. The school'serves a large catchment area and includes pupils from a variety of social backgrounds. It is 'increasingly popular, although transport in rural area limits parental choice'. It was Cornwall's first technology college and has 'outstanding' facilities for technology, science, mathematics, information technology and modern foreign languages. New accommodation is being provided for the expressive arts and a #1 million National Lottery award is facilitating a new sports leisure complex. Physical education is a core subject for all pupils and the school teams enjoy 'competitive success', with many pupils gaining county honours. The school encourages a 'full range' of community activities, from pre-school playgroup to the senior citizens' luncheon club.
