Background:

Dating back to 1903, the school is serves the village of Tywardreath as well as the 'wider community'. Developments to the building have included a staffroom, office, head's office, library, hall and a link between two original buildings. There are 'extensive' playing fields and playgrounds, as well as an indoor swimming pool. The latter is maintained by the Parent-Teacher's Association and 'all' pupils learn to swim. Tywardreath 'prides itself' on the 'commitment of staff' who offer a 'wide range' of extra-curricular activities. These include 'many sports', chess, recorder, choir, nature, gardening and photography. The school operates a 'highly successful' Early Intervention scheme, which identifies special needs students for extra language support. Parents are given advice on how to handle the situation as well as guidance and support. The progress of such children after the end of the eight week scheme is 'remarkable'. There are 'very strong' community links and fund-raising for charities happens 'regularly'. The school is over-subscribed 'in some year groups'.
