Background:
Gwinear School is situated between four villages, which constitute most of the catchment area of the school. The school was built in 1930 as an amalgamation of several schools and was extended in 1977 to include four classrooms - two infant and two junior rooms. The large playing fields are used regularly by the community playgroup. A Millennium garden is under construction and will include water features, a willow sculpture and building projects. The school won a national bid to develop computer graphics and received six computers, a scanner and two printers. A variety of after-school clubs take place during the year and include Brownies, football, art, science and netball. Children are also involved in keeping bridleways tidy and weed free. The school is part of a cluster of four schools that work together on curriculum projects and share an annual residential camp. Gwinear has a very strong family atmosphere. The school aims to provide calm, positive and purposeful environment.
