Background:
'Pleasantly' situated since 1976 in a small residential and tourist area overlooking Carbis Bay, the school was actually founded in 1833. It has since been expanded to comprise nine classrooms. There is also an 'ideal' sports field which has given rise to the school's 'fine reputation' in area sports competitions. It also boasts 'outstanding successes' in local and national chess competitions. The curriculum offers 'breadth, relevance and balance' to ensure each child fulfils his potential at their own rate. Children with learning difficulties are identified 'as early as possible'. Other than team games, after school activities include a choir and recorder group. Links with the community are 'strong', with pupils leading the St Ives Feast Day dance and regularly entertaining senior citizens. Pupils are encouraged to raise money for local and national charities, particularly those working with children. Parents are welcome to involve themselves in all aspects of school life, and the parent-teacher association is 'very successful' at raising funds for school facilities.
