Background:
St Merryn School is situated adjacent to the main Padstow - Newquay road a short distance from the centre of St Merryn village. Its Victorian main building of stone and slate construction dates from 1876 and is a symbol of the school's history and a focal point within the community. This is a friendly village school which is very much part of the local community. The classes are housed in spacious recently refurbished outside classrooms. There is a recently completed, well-resourced computer suite. Surrounding grounds provide opportunities for outdoor play, environmental studies and a science garden. In addition the enhanced playground area affords and stimulates creative play. Children are encouraged to take part in a wide variety of clubs and extra-curricular activities, which take place either at lunchtime or after-school. These may include netball, soccer, athletics, cross-country and bridge. A number of educational visits are also arranged for children during the course of the year. The school aims to provide a courteous, happy, caring and stable family style environment to develop and fulfill each child's individual and unique potential.
