Background:

St Columb is located in a 'quiet' former market town approximately five miles from Newquay. The original school building dates back to 1872, but with the recent addition extensions it now manages to blend the 'best in the old and the new'. The buildings now include a sports hall with the 'latest' equipment for games and gymnastics; a 'cafeteria'-style canteen; new changing rooms; lifts for disabled pupils and visitors; six infant and four junior classrooms with integrated cloakrooms and toilets; a 'fully equipped' information communication technology suite and classroom. A 'varied programme' of extra-curricular opportunities is offered and includes sports like basketball, cyclewise safety training, computers, gardening, French and verse speaking. The school has 'close links with parents and the community in the form of the Parent-Teacher Association, a Community Liaison Officer and adult learning like information communication technology evening classes'.
