Background:
Founded in 1879, Kea School is set in 'lovely rural surroundings' in buildings ranging from a listed stone Victorian block to a new purpose-built hall and canteen. Fundraising recently provided a replacement classroom. An after-school care and holiday club are provided on site. Extra-curricular activities include boys' and girls' football teams which both enjoy 'continued success' at local and county level and 'have the honour of being one of the smallest schools to reach the last 16 of a national soccer competition'. The school regards music as a 'strength' and teaches nine different instruments to interested pupils. The Kea School Friends association meets 'regularly' to organise functions and fundraising. The school is oversubscribed with 1.5 applicants per place.
