Background:

The school has occupied its current building since 1980. It is situated in the attractive rural village of Menheniot, three miles from Liskeard, and serves the village and an extensive rural district stretching from Merrymeet to Trerulefoot. Accommodation comprises six classrooms, a hall, ICT suite, practical work area, infant and school libraries and a special educational needs (SEN) room. Facilities in the grounds include an environmental area with a large pond, two playgrounds, Early Years fenced enclosure, quiet bench area and football pitch. An intensive shrub and tree planting programme has ensured that the grounds are well used as a learning resource. The school also rents a village allotment and has the use of nearby all-weather tennis courts and cricket pitch owned by the local sports association. There is a strong environmental theme throughout the school, and bird nesting boxes and bird tables attract a wide variety of bird life. A wide range of extra-curricular activities is available, such as football, netball, gardening, computers, cookery, cross-country and athletics. Children also take part in regular charity fund-raising events. There are very strong community links and a very active school association which organises social events. The school aims to be a friendly, caring village school with high expectations for all pupils.
