Background:

Liskeard School and Community College was opened in 1978 as a split-site comprehensive school maintained by Cornwall county council. Growing numbers have provided funding for a number of new building projects over the last three years, including a new block with eight classrooms, a large hall and well-resourced bases for drama, dance, art and music. In September 2002 the school took possession of 14 new science laboratories, a new design technology centre and two further ICT suites. The school boasts some of the best physical education and games facilities in the southwest. There is also a strong tradition in music, which is maintained through the choir and orchestra. Drama and dance events include the staging of a major musical production every other year. Pupils can participate in exchange programmes with Germany, Spain and the United States. The school aims to prepare each pupil to enter society at large as a happy, responsible person, able to contribute to the full extent of his or her abilities.
