Background:

Penair School is set within 50 acres of landscaped grounds and gardens. The school celebrated its 20th anniversary in July 1999. Penair is a mixed comprehensive school for students aged 11-16 in Truro, Cornwall. It became a Specialist School for Science in 2004. Every pupil is entitled to a broad, balanced and meaningful curriculum. The Key Stage 3 curriculum fully covers the requirements of the National curriculum. In Years 7, 8 and 9, every pupil takes a common course, which includes balanced science and a modern foreign language, either French or German. The school has a sports hall, floodlit all weather surfaces, a gymnasium and climbing wall. The school has a wide range of clubs and the concept of outdoor education has widened the range of activities. The school is developing links with Rotorua Boys High School in New Zealand with a specific interest in teaching and learning strategies, social inclusion and citizenship. The school has achieved Investor in People, Sport England, Investor in Careers, School Achievement award, Gift Talented Youth, Curriculum award, and Artsmark Gold award. The school aims to provide a lively and enthusiastic atmosphere in which a love of learning and a questioning approach to life may be stimulated.
